Flow Mow Electronic Cruise Report
CTD Station 11
- Purpose: Traverse the MEF in a general N-to-S direction at approximate pressure depth of 2140m to get a rough idea of what how plumes relate spatially to their sources during flow to the S.
- Summary: Excellent test of horizontal CTD technique at ~50mab. S predicted current explains most buoyant plumes as probably from Hulk, Dante, SnM or Tara, but one extensive plume (and associated altimeter deflection!) suggests there is a distinct (undiscovered?!) source ~20-40m NW of SnM (could be a geo-referencing offset?). The density gradient (measured by the off-set T-C pairs) was ~constant at 2150m with low variance, but in plumes the variance was hugely increased!
