Flow Mow Electronic Cruise Report
CTD Station 14
- Purpose: Search for source of a 1995 buoyant plume located between the MEF and High Rise.
- Summary: Frustrating search. The 1995 instability may not have been a buoyant plume from a focussed source... Much of this area has a bottom mixed layer, and often a warm, quasi-unstable layer at the very bottom (<10mab). Nevertheless, Mary wrote "Plume!" in the 1995 notes, and she was referring to a definite density inversion caused by a warm, clear fluid within ~40m of the bottom. Review the near-bottom currents at the time for a better source location? Alternatively, consider the accuracy of the 1995 interpolated navigational fixes. The 1995 tow was W-to-E... so, perhaps the source of the plume is located further E or W in the valley? Casts 04, 21, and 30 have similar signatures and warrant further examination.
