Table of ABE dive sections by F. Stahr

Notes:

  1. All times are given in seconds of "ABE time" which starts with seconds-UTC-day-of-dive and continues without interuption regardless of next day (i.e., becomes > 86400). These numbers were all picked by examining each dive's pressure, postition and heading records. They were rounded to nearest second.
  2. These segments all have 4hz records (some interpolated) of instruments-on data in abeXX_proc.mat, which includes abeXX.mat & sciXX.mat. Almost all have position data in variables x & y, except for the first parts of dive 47 and 50.
  3. In my matlab scripts & plots, I will use the labels noted in the last column which includes section-abbreviation and pass# followed by dive# (e.g., top250 for second top of dive 50). Section names & abbreviations are: descent (dsc), at bottom on descent-weight mooring (mor), transition between sections (trn), north-side (nsd), south-side (ssd), east-side (esd), west-side (wsd), top (top), ascent (asc).
  4. Dive notes incorporate the salient points of mine and Dana's together.

Plan: Imaginex survey at 40 mab

Results: got lost on 1st turn so most of dive @ 200mab, no Imaginex, 
no Eh, no MAVS, bad nose CTD, no Sontek 
(most instruments disconnected or off)

Plan: Imaginex survey at 40 mab 

Result: mostly complete, but came up a little early due to hitting 3.6V 
threshold on batts, still bad Eh, bad MAVS, bad nose CTD, some Sontek?, 
good Imaginex

Plan: two tops section (300x700 m) at 75 mab, east to west in 20 m 
increments, shift 10 m, then 20 m spaced tracks to the east  

Result: done completely, but bad Eh, bad MAVS, bad nose CTD, some Sontek?

Result: completed 1st top and 3/4 of 2nd but timed out before end of 
tracks due to bad navigation (noise from lower CTD pump, but only dive 
with both CTDs good), bad MAVS (still), bad Sontek?

Plan: top @ 75mab, vert thruster vs. speed test 

Result: all complete including thruster test at end, failed 
'come home' ping test, no nose CTD, MAVS on separate battery & 
logging, got 5.5hrs data @ ~4hz

Plan: north side, top (75mab), south, east, west sides, top again 

Result: almost all tracks, timed out with 1.3 tracks left on 2nd top. 
10kHz xpndr off in software, so tracking was excellent except for small 
area in NW corner. MAVS logged @ 1/2 Hz, full record, some Sontek, lost 
ehMv data at 1.246e5 sec due to corrosion

Plan: as many tops as possible, but flying E-W instead of N-S, box 
700x240, start just south of mid-field, work north, then south, etc. 
with 20 m track spacing, bumped 10 m at ends for interlaced pattern.

Result: nearly 5 complete passes consisting of 181 tracklines, aborted 
when one battery pack shut down on low voltage (3.0, MAVS logged @ 
1/2 Hz, no Sontek
