Summary by Véronique Robigou Port observations based on notes taken during dive

8:00 In water
8:24 on the way down listening to Xponders 7.5-8.5-11-11.5 for navigation
8:40 Problems with manifold computer
9:11 altitude75 m
9:14 8 m
9:16 on bottom
9:18 6180,8519,2149,5,H316
We landed east andslightly north of the High-Rise horst to check the interpretations
of the SONAR map and try to put some good fixes to correlate f eatures on the map to
known features mapped with Alvin.
Welanded right at the edge of the talus slope of the eastern wall.
All the geology decription along the transect between the eastern wall and horst
are reported in teh dive narrative.
10:00 Godzilla
We are at Godzilla after having travlled south along a high fault boundary coming
into the High-rise field and east pasing the Three Sisters structure area.sampling
hydrothermal fluids
10:19 Close to the top of Godzilla.
5769,8329,2114,35,30 First smoker sampled
Measuring temp with HighT probe in smoker:333.4C
10:26 Discrete major #10 5770,8328,2114,24,020
10:32 discete GasT blue #2 Could be bad! Did not hear it trigger!
10:36 discrete GasT yellow #5
10:38 Marker deployed Large 1T 1m to the right of the sampled smoker
10:43 Choosing a second smoker on Godzilla
10:46 Documenting smoker
10:47 Measuring temperature: 341.3C
10:52 discrete major#12 5770,8336,2114,36,172
10:58 discrete GasT red #?
11:00 deploying maker AJ at this smoker 50 cm away from smoker
11:04 Leaving this area
11:11 Bambi 5782,8320,2142,19,296
Decided to move on and sample other structures to get a better estimate of fluid
chemistry gradient in High-Rise
11:14 Boardwalk
11:16 Found marker C deployed in 1991
11:20 5758,8297,2142,17,244
11:23 smoker close to marker D deployed in 1991
temp: 342.2C
little chunk of chimney ended in basket from the orifice of the smoker which is very
large (15 cm in diameter)
11:36 marker A8 deployed by the smoker
11:40 discrete Major #3 red
11:42 discrete GasT purple #7
11:47 Pat and John Baross saw a small flange to investigate in this area
11:50 temp. in flange pool: 278.4C
11:56 5755,8293,2141,18,019
Documenting flange with SIT and Alvin color camera
11:58 Part of the flange has been recovered in the basket
size: 60 cm wide, 8 cm thick, about 35 lbs
12:02 done and heading toward Ventnor
12:15 Ventnor
5606,8227, 2164, 6, 139
12:19 sampling first the last discrete major because in Jerry's .
12:22 temp:341.7C
12:23 last discrete major #9
12:27 deploying marker AI
12:50 manifold sampling major#1 at temp:303.3C
12:53 Deployed marker large 1M
5606, 8219, 2163, 8, 098
13:24 Boardwalk
Deployed marker AL at 5749, 8298, 2145, 14, 078
Looking at a flange right there for John Baross and sampling the rest of manifold
sampler in the flange.(3 majors and 1 GasT)
13:28 done with flange
13:29 starting to ascent to surface and trigerring Niskin botles on the way up
5749, 8298: 2137, 15 red Niskin at 5 m
2132 orange Niskin at 10m
2127 blue Niskin at 15 m
