Heat Flux Estimates from the Plume Tows

One method for estimating the heat flux of a deep-sea hydrothermal plume is to establish a control volume, inventory the excess heat within that volume, estimate the transport of fluid through that control volume from current meter records, and from these parameters estimate the heat flux. The details of the methodology can be found in R.E. Thomson, J.R. Delaney, R.E. McDuff, D.R. Janecky and J.A. McClain (1992) Physical characteristics of the Endeavour Ridge hydrothermal plume during July 1988, Earth Planet. Sci. Letters, 111, 141-154.
