Mixing Zephyr Program
CTD Instrumentation
The CTD used for the night time operations was a self-powered Seabird
CTD fitted with conductivity and temperature probes, and a
transmissometer. The CTD was mounted within a frame directly below a
General Oceanics 12 position rosette which was fired by a seabird deck
unit. Mounted onto the rosette was a pinger used to judge height above
the bottom of the package by means of the trace on the PDR. The other
eleven positions on the rosette were occupied by 30 litre niskin
sampling bottles. Data received from the CTD was displayed on a
computer monitor using the seasoft software and was used to trip the
sample bottles at the appropriate times within the various plumes of
interest.
